About

Who We Are

Directly-elected government officials advising the city on community needs

Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners are elected to advise the DC government on its decisions about their neighborhoods in terms of both the opinions of the neighbors and the best interest of the District of Columbia as a whole. In 2023-2024, there are 345 commissioners serving on 46 commissions across all 8 wards.

LGBTQ Washingtonians live in every commission of the city and LGBTQ-specific issues go beyond the boundaries of any one ANC. Many commissioners openly identify as LGBTQ people and the Rainbow Caucus is our forum to discuss their needs, take action, and further equality and justice for all residents.
